Leadership Academy

Programme Detail

Criteria:

A set of criteria has been developed and effectively communicated to students, educators, principals and district leadership, communicating the criteria expected for students to attend the Leadership Academy.  With key prizes to be won if the young leaders manage to launch successful community projects in a period of six months following the leadership camp they will attend, we anticipate a high level of involvement from the Districts.

1st year:

Pre-identified students in grade 9 will be introduced to this programme.  Once a student has been identified as a leader in his/her community, these student applicants will then, together with a teacher from their school, apply to the leadership academy.  From the Provincial Office a certificate will be issued to the top student leaders and educators, who will then be invited to attend the academy. Students and Educators identified will be attending a 4 night, 5 day leadership academy training.  During this time they will undergo practical training offered to the educators and the students separately and at times combined.  The objective of the training will be to help develop the students in a holistic approach (spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and professionally).

The outflow from this week will be that the students will be equipped to implement a pre-designed and taught community project to impact their immediate community. Once the students and the educators graduate from the five day training camp, they will go back to their community to launch a community programme within the next six months.  The students and educators will also receive a package to enable them to launch the programmes in the communities.

Once the program is launched, a report format will be given to the students and the educators.  As soon as the district director receives this report, he will work with a team to judge their performance and reports and then choose the top three programmes.   When the top three programmes have been chosen, a date will be set for the officials to visit the site and do the presentation to the students and educators while actually seeing the programmes in action.

2nd year:

When the first year is completed, the second year will see the leaders who have succeeded in launching a successful community programme, continue on to the second year.  The second year will also entail a similar programme approach, but the size of the community project will be extended to a bigger area.

3rd year:

The third year will be similar to the first and second years with an even wider spread.

4th and final year:

Once the students have completed the three year programme they will be eligible for the leadership council.  During this year they will have several responsibilities to see through such as:
